Few Kilometres far from Pisa, the Calci borough expands in a valley bearing the same name but also known as Valgraziosa (literally "nice valley") dotted with villages and settlements belonging to the wider morphological picture of the Monte Pisano, a real natural amphitheatre dominated by the summit of Monte Serra (917 m. above the sea level).
The monastic complex, also known as Certosa di Pisa, is surrounded by Monti Pisani and develops in the Valgraziosa; it's among the most suggestive views of the Calci area (a masterpiece from the Fourteenth Century redecorated between the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries), together with the Museum of Natural History and of the Territory, very important on an European level and unique in its own kind..

Going towards Calci takes you into the very green Zambra valley and you quickly reach the Certosa di Calci, one of the finest religious edifices in Tuscany. Considered the palace of seclusion, the Carthusian monastery represents one of the greatest examples of baroque in Tuscany. If you go inside, you are struck by the contrast between the green lawn and the spectacular facade decorated with statues. Of these, "hope" and "faith" recall the main function of the building, hope and faith being the two fundamental 'rules' of hermetic life.
